* We only list fields as reactive friendly following a visit because reactivity means different things to different dogs! Details can be found on each review in the yellow section. Listed fields field may be suitable for reactive dogs, but we have just not had the chance to verify this.

About This Field

If you’re looking for an indoor play area for your dog in Buckinghamshire then this barn at ‘Down at The Farm’ is an exclusive hire barn with lots of activities.

Down at the Farm also has a secure field that was not open at the time of visiting due to mud and the owners are obviously trying to preserve the field which is perfectly understandable.

Access and Parking

Dunmead Farm is in a rural setting but really easy to access from Bicester (9 miles), Buckingham (10 miles), Aylesbury 13 Miles) with Oxford a little further at about 20 miles. The owner provided video instructions on where to park on arrival and this was very helpful as there were a number of similar entrances to the farm itself.

Whilst this facility doesn’t have a secure area where you can park and get your dogs out, the parking is directly outside the barn so easy access – but you should put your dogs on lead as this is a working farm with all the distractions of an active yard.

The Indoor Play Barn

Once inside this barn offers completely secure playtime as you can lock the door from the inside for peace of mind which is always welcome. The flooring is a rubberised painted concrete with rubber mats around the equipment as it can be a bit slippery! One of our dogs did take a while to get confident running about but a little encouragement on this new surface and she was fine!

The barn is not enormous which we thought may not be enough space for our dogs to get a good run about but we were wrong! It was plenty big enough to wear them out!

There are a number of activities:

  • Ball pit
  • Raised walkway
  • Mini A-frame
  • Hoops
  • Weave poles
  • Soft blocks

We took two medium sized (20-25kg) athletic dogs and a fit miniature dachshund and there was something for everyone.

For Humans

There is a picnic bench and sofa which means that this is great if you have someone who is not so able in your group and they can still participate in playtime – something that is often tricky in a secure field setting.

There is a dog waste bin, spare poo bags, a water bowl and water and plenty of cleaning equipment for the inevitable!

NOTES FOR REACTIVE DOG OWNERS

As this barn is completely enclosed you will have no distractions whilst you are in the barn but we would advise vigilance when you’re getting in and out of your vehicle – as noted above, this is an active farmyard so we would expect there to be moving vehicles and unexpected noises on occasion.

We believe there are plans to expand this facility to provide access to a secure field in the future so we will revisit in the future.

Our visit was £17.50 for 1 hour for three dogs. Booking is via Facebook and payment by BACS transfer.
