About This Field

Middle Barton Dog Park is a 2 acre secure grassy paddock located in West Oxfordshire approximately 15 miles north of Oxford, 12 miles west of Bicester and 10 miles south east of Chipping Norton.

Booking and Accessing Middle Barton Dog Park

Booking is via a secure website – sessions are 1 hour but listed at 50 minutes in the code of conduct detailed on the website. This is important for all users as the approach is a single carriage country road and there is nowhere to pull in and wait.

It’s best to use the What3Words locator or our Google map pin which takes you directly to the gate as there is no signage at the time we visited.

The drive up to the field gate is compact stone and gently slopes down towards the gate – the field website suggests reversing to the gate to enable easy exit or you will end up reversing onto a country lane with limited visibility – this is something we also suggest is a good idea.

What is Middle Barton Dog Park Like?

Middle Barton Dog Park is an undulating grass paddock with at least 6ft fencing all round.

  • Two Sides: Narrow aperture fencing (dog field fencing)
  • Far End: Taller than 6ft chain-link fence with a 45 degree crank and barbed wire securing a water treatment area and
  • One Side: Chain-link fence

The field itself is great for ball throwing – it is cut but is still quite long so take bright balls!

There’s a nice amount of shade coming from the very mature hedge and woodland spinny behind one side of the fence – this will offer nice cover on warmer days.

There are a few items in the field but they aren’t really worth mentioning because they don’t seem to have a purpose in terms of enrichment – they are just placed tyres and poles – perhaps when we visit next time this will have been improved.

Is Middle Barton Dog Park Secure?

This field has good quality fencing all round and is well installed.

There are two areas that you might want to consider if you have smaller dogs – one is under the main gate which has a gap sufficient for some dogs to squeeze through and the other is the two areas that have wooden panelling to connect some posts.

This field is not drive-in but you can reverse to the gate.

Things you should know about Middle Barton Dog Park

  • This dog field is in a rural location and is very peaceful
  • The padlock is fiddly because of the way the gate opens – they may change this but be prepared to squat on the ground to input the code!
  • The fencing is very robust – the largest gauge commercially available standard fencing so this field is particularly suited to large breeds with a tendency to ‘test’ fences
  • Whilst the website says there is water available, there was none on our visit so do not forget to bring your own

Notes for Reactive Dog Owners

  • There is a livestock field that shares a boundary with this dog park
  • The road is close to the gate (see photograph) and during our visit there were several dog walkers that passed the entrance – your car should screen this mostly
  • The water plant makes an occasional noise for those with super sound sensitive dogs
